Watch the 2024 InnovateNB highlights
InnovateNB 2024 was an inspiring reminder of what makes New Brunswick’s innovation ecosystem so special: the people, partnerships, and passion that fuels our collective success. On November 13, at the Delta Beauséjour in Moncton, we celebrated the remarkable achievements of our innovators, researchers, and entrepreneurs at the annual InnovateNB Awards. This event wasn’t a showcase of talent—it was a call to action for all of us to keep pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.
Having worked closely with innovators, partners, and stakeholders across New Brunswick, I’m privileged to witness firsthand how collaboration drives innovation in our province. InnovateNB is a testament to the power of working together—government, private sector, non-profits, and academia—to create a vibrant ecosystem where ideas flourish, businesses grow, and communities thrive.
InnovateNB is more than an awards ceremony. It’s a platform designed to elevate our innovators and celebrate New Brunswick’s successes on the global stage. This year, the theme of AI took center stage, showcasing how artificial intelligence is reshaping industries and unlocking new opportunities for innovation and growth. Daytime programming featured panels, lectures, and company showcases that not only highlighted the incredible support available within our ecosystem but also delved into the transformative potential of AI across sectors.
It was inspiring to see so many leaders sharing their expertise and experiences, helping others adopt new technologies and embracing change. At TechImpact, we are deeply committed to accelerating digital transformation across industries, and this year’s focus on AI aligns perfectly with our mission.
One of the most moving moments of the evening was the induction of Sandy Bird, Chris Newton, and Brian Flood (in memoriam) into the InnovateNB Hall of Fame. As co-founders of Q1 Labs, their story is one of vision, perseverance, and impact. From their early days at the University of New Brunswick to becoming a global leader in cybersecurity, they showed us what’s possible when bold ideas meet unwavering determination. You could have heard a pin drop as Sandy shared their founder's journey. Their legacy extends beyond their technological achievements. They’ve empowered countless individuals in our community, paving the way for the next generation of innovators. Hearing Sandy Bird reflect on their path was a powerful reminder of the human element behind every success—the friendships, partnerships, and shared dreams that make it all possible.
As we celebrated the accomplishments of this year’s finalists and winners, I couldn’t help but feel excited about the future of innovation in New Brunswick. We know that innovation doesn’t stop when the awards are over. It’s an ongoing process, fueled by industry research, accelerator programs, talent development, and the adoption of the amazing products and services being built in New Brunswick and all of Atlantic Canada.
InnovateNB 2024 reinforced the importance of fostering a culture of innovation that attracts investment, nurtures talent, and inspires the world. Together, we are building an ecosystem that not only competes on the global stage but also leads with purpose.
To everyone who made InnovateNB 2024 a success: thank you. Your dedication, creativity, and passion are what make New Brunswick’s innovation ecosystem so extraordinary, and together, we are driving innovation that transforms our province and inspires the world. Congratulations to all the nominees, finalists, winners, and Hall of Fame inductees. You are proof that world-changing innovation starts right here at home. And thanks to our partners and sponsors—your support was instrumental in bringing this event to life and in strengthening the foundation of New Brunswick's innovation ecosystem.
Let’s build on this momentum. The future of New Brunswick is limitless, and I am excited for what's around the corner in 2025.
